Smithfield native Lauren King has a knack for writing songs that tell stories. They could be about going up Route 95 to see a loved one, personal struggles or just about the many intricacies of life itself. She does this with a blend of folk, blues and pop sensibilities, and her debut album that came out on July 24 is a wonderful representation of it, with catchy rhythms and narrative lyrics that make each track stand out. “Boston Song,” “Isn’t It Nice?” “Romeo” and “Wild Woman” are excellent examples of why King’s debut is a real gem.
